MONTGOMERY, Ala. — President Donald Trump is test driving his political clout in a Republican runoff election in Alabama as he stumps for the establishment-backed incumbent over an upstart beloved by many of his own most ardent supporters.
Buoyed by the sense the race is newly competitive, Trump heads to Huntsville, Alabama, on Friday to campaign for Sen. Luther Strange, appointed in February to temporarily fill the seat that opened up when Jeff Sessions became attorney general.
Trump, who endorsed Strange last month, tweeted Friday: "Will be in Alabama tonight. Luther Strange has gained mightily since my endorsement, but will be very close. He loves Alabama, and so do I!"
Trump claims he was first to call Strange 'Big Luther'
But Strange used "Big Luther" early on in his political career, including his first run for Alabama attorney general in 2010.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — At a rally for Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore in a historic train depot on Thursday evening, several of his prominent supporters took turns explaining why they think President Trump endorsed the Republican establishment's pick for the seat instead of Moore, a former state Supreme Court justice known for his politically incorrect and often Trump-like statements and positions.
Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert, a Republican backed by the Tea Party movement, suggested that the president was misled by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, whom the crowd repeatedly booed. Jan Morgan, a spokeswoman for the Citizens for Trump grass-roots group, said “the president was ill-advised when he made his decision.” And former Alaska governor Sarah Palin accused the swamp — which is what Trump likes to call the Washington establishment — of trying to overpower the president.
“The forgotten man and woman in this country, they stood up, and we beat the swamp. But, alas, 10 months later, guys, the swamp, it's trying to hijack this presidency,” said Palin, who unsuccessfully ran for vice president in 2008 and was one of the leaders of the Tea Party movement that predated the Trump movement. “The swamp is trying to steal the victory that we worked so long and hard for — to steal the victory that a lot of us put our reputations on the line for. We voted to put America first, not the political elite that had ignored us for decades.”

MIT Professor Predicts Earth's Next Mass Extinction To Begin By 2100 - tie Elizabeth Kolbert - The Sixth Extinction
Geologists have long been fascinated with past extinction events and now it appears we're may be headed for another one by the end of the century. This finding is based on a mathematical analysis of the five mass extinction events occurring within the past 540 million years.
What do all of these mass extinction events have in common? Unusually high increases in global carbon, leading to a destabilization of practically every ecosystem, with a punctuated impact on oceans. Dr. Daniel Rothman, a professor at MIT's Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences department took a mathematical approach to investigate why some carbon anomalies in the past have led to minor disruptions while others have led to mass extinctions.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — President Donald Trump is test driving his political clout in a Republican runoff election in Alabama as he stumps for the establishment-backed incumbent over an upstart beloved by many of his own most ardent supporters.
Buoyed by the sense the race is newly competitive, Trump heads to Huntsville, Alabama, on Friday to campaign for Sen. Luther Strange, appointed in February to temporarily fill the seat that opened up when Jeff Sessions became attorney general.
Trump, who endorsed Strange last month, tweeted Friday: "Will be in Alabama tonight. Luther Strange has gained mightily since my endorsement, but will be very close. He loves Alabama, and so do I!"
Trump claims he was first to call Strange 'Big Luther'
But Strange used "Big Luther" early on in his political career, including his first run for Alabama attorney general in 2010.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — At a rally for Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore in a historic train depot on Thursday evening, several of his prominent supporters took turns explaining why they think President Trump endorsed the Republican establishment's pick for the seat instead of Moore, a former state Supreme Court justice known for his politically incorrect and often Trump-like statements and positions.
Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert, a Republican backed by the Tea Party movement, suggested that the president was misled by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, whom the crowd repeatedly booed. Jan Morgan, a spokeswoman for the Citizens for Trump grass-roots group, said “the president was ill-advised when he made his decision.” And former Alaska governor Sarah Palin accused the swamp — which is what Trump likes to call the Washington establishment — of trying to overpower the president.
“The forgotten man and woman in this country, they stood up, and we beat the swamp. But, alas, 10 months later, guys, the swamp, it's trying to hijack this presidency,” said Palin, who unsuccessfully ran for vice president in 2008 and was one of the leaders of the Tea Party movement that predated the Trump movement. “The swamp is trying to steal the victory that we worked so long and hard for — to steal the victory that a lot of us put our reputations on the line for. We voted to put America first, not the political elite that had ignored us for decades.”

Geologists have long been fascinated with past extinction events and now it appears we're may be headed for another one by the end of the century. This finding is based on a mathematical analysis of the five mass extinction events occurring within the past 540 million years.
What do all of these mass extinction events have in common? Unusually high increases in global carbon, leading to a destabilization of practically every ecosystem, with a punctuated impact on oceans. Dr. Daniel Rothman, a professor at MIT's Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences department took a mathematical approach to investigate why some carbon anomalies in the past have led to minor disruptions while others have led to mass extinctions.
