Round had asked FH about that as I recall. FH had a pretty logical explanation for not obtaining patents. I don't recall the specifics but I think it had to do with his fear that if he had a patent that any competitor OUTSIDE of the USA could violate that patent (steal his unique ideas) and he would have no viable legal recourse.
I whether an experience patent attorney would agree with that excuse. It does seem logical if FH truly has a process/techique that is superior and he is trying to guard it.
