My guess would be to not create an appearance of themselves buying up all the land as to try and control the cost of buying more land. Jmo

Nobody's seriously suggesting HKND is affiliated with ACDU, no claim has been made as to that. Rather, ACDU seems to be acquiring land they think will benefit from the canal. They even said they'd give the government land free in exchange for access to the infrastructure, read the PR.

Kenny, in the early 60s I was serving in the Navy at Sanford, FL, just north of Orlando. An anonymous buyer was quietly buying acreage a bit here, a bit there, often miles apart, and had made tremendous progress of accumulation before even rumors started. It was even longer before Walt Disney announced their intentions AFTER they had most already locked up and had to pay only a bit more for the final puzzle pieces for Disneyworld. If Wang started openly buying land the values would be skyrocketing.
