You should have sold 20 puts instead and taken delivery.

JAEJAE,

Sorry about your loss but IDCC did nothing illegal.

I agree with the opinion of a prior post that the timing of the announcement could have been connected with a possible filing of IDCC response on Friday. I have a feeling that IDCC was going to release the announcement as the same time they were going to file their response. When NOK blinked and caused IDCC to file for an extension, IDCC decided to file the announcement today. As Art would say, "That is your WAG."

Ditto JAEJAE, But neither you or I can throw a red flag and ask for and "Upstairs review." We're stuck with the "Call on the Field."

Bummer!

Having said that, What a great day for the Longs, Particulary Loop, who beats my seniority by at least 6 years. Way to go, guy!

JAEJAE:"Any one else in this situation have any thoughts on recourse."

Yea man, at it the pit's. Hell I didn't need this of all day's. Had 5 Oil Wells come in today. Was flying high. Then along comes IDCC and blows that out of the water with news that toped the Hell out of 5 wells. Go figure.

LOL I love it for all the longs that have stood by IDCC all these years. Your the best.

Jim they did it.

I had 255 Jan 20's and 125 Jan 22.5 expire worthless.

Well, still have my shares and 75 feb 15's. What is past is over.
No could have , should have. Very happy to see that we finally are at a breakout point.

Many thanks to Jim for putting this excellent investment forum, to IDCC management for focusing on execution and standing strong against the big Bully, and to a very talented group of posters for their analysis.

Looking forward to New Jersey 25 this weekend.

Good Luck all.

Not in your situation but the fact remains about 33,000 options expired out of the money.

I have sent a few suggestions over the years to the company to provide news that would catch the options players with their pants down.

If I were CEO or COB I would do so that no one could predict the value of my company's stock via options.

Problem is this happens every month and most think those in the company are selling calls and news like today could have been released earlier.

I've been here a long time also ( since 1992 ) always long and many times disappointed by events concerning this company (as we all have been). Besides owning the stock, I've bought call options thru the years hoping to capitalize on what I perceived to be upcoming good news only to be let down time and time again.
I extremely happy about today's events and am glad for all of us that have hung in there over these trying times with IDCC. I will continue to see it thru until we reap the profits from this company's products and ideas.
But....I also question the timing of this news. If indeed they knew this was done on or before January 18 why was that info withheld until today. It cost me a considerable sum when my options expired worthless.
Anybody venture a reasonable explanation ?
Thanks to all for the years of persistence and research you have done. Back to lurking ! Doc

I made a huge mistake with gambling on management's ability to deliver during 2005 by selling shares and gambling the proceeds on Jan '06 20's and 25's. I have nobody but myself to blame for believing management would come through timely. Some of it wasn't their fault, it was the fault of the judicial system for allowing the delays in the Nokia arbitration which delayed Samsung etc.

Today's announcement that could have easily been released either Wed, Thur or Friday is management's fault. They strategically did this for some reason IMO to hit the option players. During a phone call with Janet about a year ago, she commented to me that the number of phone calls goes up dramatically during option expiration week. IDCC management was well aware of the number of option players. Why they did this I have know idea and it really pisses me off but like I said, I have nobody but myself to blame. Still, I can't understand why management would do this to option players. Hell they own a ton of options themselves that they took out of the company, oh I forgot theirs expire in a decade from the gift, not a year from date of purchase. Way to go management.

On the bright side, although I don't have the upside I once did due to my stupid option play, I still own shares and also have some Jan '07's so I will realize a decent upside anyway. Take it from me and Mickybritt, stay away from options.
