#17447 RE: up-down #17444

UP-DOWN--a very fair post I think. Couple of things though to add and that is that without ERHC involvement back in the day, there would be NO JDZ. ERHC got the UN involved and and was key to creating the treaty. Also, I'll bet you a share that that the split would not be 60/40 but more like an 89/10 but for ERHC in the early days. Oh yeah, and there would not be XOM involved either w/o ERHC involvement; and there would have een no seismic studies either w/o ERHC.

Now even w/all that, I suppose a good argument can be made that our deal is still too good. That may be true; however, do not underestimate the role ERHC played in the early days.

up-down, the percentages you posted are out of date. The deal was renegotiated since then, eliminating the royalties, etc, in exchange for preferential rights in the JDZ. You really should read up a bit further.

New technology adding value
You can't forget that when the original seismic was done in the JDZ the technology to extract oil from these depths was not available and has only recently become economically viable. As such, STP thought they were giving up very little and ERHC fell into an extremely advantageous situation. I don't see why you feel now STP can reneg on the contract and ask for a better deal in that the monies have grown so astronomically.
JDZ not a bad deal for the people of STP; they had nothing to start with and the monies from the JDZ should make all their lives better except for the politicians with their unquenchable greed and embarrassment at realizing what a poor contract they negotiated. I don't think the people of STP will benefit much differently whether they get 10%, 40%, or 80% of the entire JDZ monies as all will be lining the pockets of the aforementioned.

up-down - Tks for posting MOST of the ''positive FACTS'', even of course with your own ''twist''. Not least NOT mentioning AT ALL the FACT, that The AGREEMENT with Nigeria and Sao Tome and Principe has been through 3 Arbitrations; the last one Approved by the World Bank and the Parliament of Sao Tome & P. !!

Your contribution, with Map and all, is a good summary of what's in store for ERHE.

Tks *Mongo*, I've probably had you on ignore for a couple of years, so let's talk again in 2 years time.
