Paul, maybe you missed the dozens of reviews on the 3000+ Athlon that said they disapproved of the much larger model number. AMD pushed farther ahead in order to be competitive, and they started taking the chipset into account, comparing against a Pentium 4 with slower memory, and ignoring any application which may take advantage of Hyperthreading. I don't think AMD's model numbers have been conservative since the 2200+, and in the direction that they are going, AMD could end up with a PR nightmare. Yup, it's speculation on my part, but I hope I'm not long when that bomb goes off.

You couldn't be more correct.
Ever since AMD introduced that Quantispeed rating - in the third quarter of 2001 - they have lost money in every single quarter - making it 7 straight quarters including this one.
Those who matter voted with their pocketbooks, and restored Intel's market share to its historic highs, while restoring AMD's financials to their historic high losses.
