WBMW, Re AMD pushed farther ahead in order to be competitive, and they started taking the chipset into account, comparing against a Pentium 4 with slower memory, and ignoring any application which may take advantage of Hyperthreading.
You seem not to recall the way Intel used rambus memory. For those who are even less knowlegable than myself:
Intel and retailers used systems with expensive RAMBUS memory for bench marking. Way over 90% (like 99%~?) of systems sold ran MUCH SLOWER SDRAM.
What AMD is doing is using a mobo/chipset that is mainstream. Albeit probably the best one.
