The study which I spoke of dealt with new blood vessels and hemorrhage on the retina (and into the vitreous) associated with retinal anoxia from diabetes. The theory is that by lasering peripheral retina, you reroute the blood to the central retina, protecting it. It was controversial until the study proved that it worked.
