Brekken did the presentation of Sept 7th in Chicago.
I think he has his own lab in UTSW (not sure but I read that somewhere).
If that's the case, and I don't know if such things are possible - maybe FTM knows since he worked in such environments - Thorpe's lab could be merged or something with Brekken's lab. That would have the advantage that you keep the team, grants, etc. Of course maybe those labs do completely different things and Brekken may not even be interested, although I doubt that!
His presentation was good, even with leaked slides :), and he knows the subject and research. Sounds like a good candidate follow-up for Thorpe.
Then again the question is how political is all this played. Can a friend of the Board of Regents talk its way into this probably highly wanted research and make them forget about people like Brekken. You know, spreading some dollars today to catch the big fish later!
