#228710 RE: New Wave #228709

hi nw,

great example of a change in the environment that may yield benefits.

another example is the availability of the win 2012 server.

in my view, if wave was stuck with the status quo, there would be little hope. but actually it inhabits a gradually shifting landscape.

the big question is - are there a large number of unseen obstacles in wave's path? or have they reached the point at which customers think wave's solution makes sense?

New Wave: Thanks for this clarification.

Based on the end of XP support in 2014 one could easily see an accelerated purchase of Windows 7 and 8 platforms within the USG starting in 2013. And the notion that NIST has already stated that FIPS 140-2 or 140-3 should be forthcoming for TPM 2.0 (2.1) the non-certification of FIPS 140-2 for the TPM 1.2 should play a lessor role within the USG. Although I wouldn't be surprised - actually I expect it - that some kind of time limited exception (maybe grandfathered by the NSA) would be granted by the authorities in power.

Moreover, we should not forget that NIST is only relevant for the US Government agencies. In the rest of the world NIST is irrelevant. Common Criteria certification counts.

From the AFCEA presentation in August (around minute 30):

“We just completed a pilot, or we’re in the final stages of a pilot, at NSA. Guess what the #1 thing we learned in the pilot was. You’re going to love this. It is way cheaper to turn on the TPM before it’s deployed as opposed to automatically turning it on in the network.”
