If you can't run your anti virus or spyware programs, you have downloaded something nasty. Your registry corruption message is not good either. I know it's a pain to reload windows and all the software is a pain but so is having your computer crash at unexpected moments. What if you just saw that one of your stocks had bad earnings and you wanted to bail and your computer crashes???

I would go to cnet.com or zdnet.com and look under utilities for a program that will try to fix your registry problems. Maybe that's what is causing your computer to crash all the time. Most are shareware so you can use it to fix your problem before you decide if you want to pay. If it makes the problem worse, you can still reload windows. But if it works, you can see if that allows you to fix the virus and spyware problems. Also try avast.com. They have a free anti virus scan.

BTW do all this after the market closes on Friday so you have all weekend to fiddle with it. It is going to be frustrating so allocate the time to do it right. If all else fails, Dell has cheap computers for $299!! LOL! Good luck, Bobwins

ASO may solve your problem

Go to this web site: http://www.systweak.com/

Download the trial version of the Advance System Optimizer software. It is a great software to fix registry problems.

The trial software is good for a couple of weeks.

Run all of their options.

Hope it helps.

You can reload the operating system or have someone do it for you.

Prices vary from $75 - $150 for this.

Wade a suggestion

I don't know the specific text of the error message but if it gives you any information at all ie Registry setting for HKEY_.. is corrupt. Enter the error message in google and see if it comes up.

It might be a common problem and if its just one setting thats bad or if its caused by a virus someone has probably encountered it and they may be able to tell you how to fix it.

If it says nothing but "registry corrupt" you are probably SOL.

Wade - Registry Mechanic is the best I've found to fix exacly that. Of course I've gone with Bobwins Plan "B" and simply replaced before too. Cookies and spyware are inscessant. Pay the money for a full blown security package. I've got mine set so tight that it asks if I want to allow every cookie presented, (I decline nearly all of them) It's a hassle to constantly see the McAfee alert box, but the system has been stable for over a year.

OT - Wadegarret Computer Problem

I'm just a user, not a computer expert. But I've had to deal with a few parasites and nasty things before. Here's what I would do.

1) Go to this link at doxdesk. Just by going there, it will do a pretty good scan of your sytem for parasites, and will also tell you how to fix them:

http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/

2) Download and run Regseeker.

http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm

This is the best Registry program I've ever used. It's also free. Once downloaded, Click on "Clean The Registry" (make sure the "backup before deletion" box is checked -- it should be by default), then click OK, and let it do it's magic. If your machine doesn't crash, it'll surely find loads of stuff. Choose "Select All" and then hit the Delete button on your keyboard. (Your mileage may vary, but I've never had it make a mistake.) Now all the bad entries are gone, but they've also been backed up.

3) Download and run HijackThis! here:

http://castlecops.com/downloads-file-328.html

Here is a page that shows how to interpret the results:

http://castlecops.com/HijackThis.html

If you're not comfortable with what to delete and not delete, then

4) Register at Castlecops and tell them your problem and include the log from hijackthis. Read the rules of the board first so you don't waste their time. If I recall, I think this is a volunteer effort by some Google employees. They're very helpful. Tell them your problem, show them your hijackthis log, and they'll walk you through it. If they can fix your problem, donate a few bucks to them.

Let us know how it turns out.
