In this observers opinion, indirect codes will be the method of the future. Just because LK once said that NeoMedia is "currently using" managed direct, in no way necessarily meant, "we will never use indirect again." It meant, I would say, that the state of QR code use had not reached the point where indirect would be used, as in Neustar, because it is not a big enough phenomena to need that kind of management, yet, but it will be- Soon.

The new "databar" standard code GS1 has been pushing contemplates the possibility of adding attached to it a datamatrix code. The new POS systems being implemented are image scanning (or 2d barcode ready) capable. The healthcare industry is adopting datamatrix across the whole chain.
