IMO, adding LG is just protecting IDCC IP. In order to so, IDCC needed to make sure that LG was indeed using IDCC IP, without being in a licensing agreement for that IP. That takes time, and it takes an investigatory process by the engineering staff. In order to add them to the list, IDCC has to be able to identify specifically the IDCC IP that LG is using in their product, in order to make sure they have "grounds" to so.
This has nothing to do with a potential buyout, but in fact, may point more toward a buyout, than not....because this is about sustaining the IDCC IP portfolio value. It is pretty damn impressive that all of these major players are using IDCCs IP. Do the math...that is some serious dollars. It would look good to me if I was a buyer.
