One of the troublesome aspects may be the complete secrecy of the IDCC sale as even though there are many articles and possible leaks that have been reported, none come directly from IDCC or any of the potential bidders. Seems there would be more direct leaks with the possibility of so many interested parties involved whether or not to enter the bidding process. On the other hand, no potential bidder has directly reported disinterest.
Apple has strengthened its portfolio with their participation in the nortel patent acquisition and google has done the same with mmi. Doubt any other company needed patents for defensive purposes more than Google so their need may be somewhat satisfied.
Putting this together there seems to be little interest in acquiring other companies with intellectual property such as Wi-lan, Rambus or Ek. Although there are vast differences in their IP portfolio, Ek had a surge in share price, yet since, the S/P has been creeping down. On top of this, scattered reports from biased company heads report the patent war may be over.
Still IDCC would have not been persuing strategic options had they not had serious inquiries and the most serious inquiry was assumed to be google which has not been confirmed as fact as to what prompted IDCC's announcement. I would doubt interest would have come from just one company. I expect either the news to be fast and furious after labor day or I expect IDCC would shortly announce a pull out in September. .. nic
