Hi tradermama,
I have been doing somewhat the same thing for the past six months with very good results. What I found from some backtesting was that if I go from money market (safe mode) to the Templeton foreign whenever the compx has a 1% or better rise, the returns are remarkable. The time I used for backtesting was the "nassacre" where everything was down hard. Applying that simple rule, the yield was over 10%. I was astounded! I watch a few other details like whether the HK market leads the rise or not to avoid getting sucked into a bad move, but overall, blind faith in the "system" has worked very well. Note that TFFAX was up 1.3% Friday even though Japan was closed and the European markets didn't move.

I still mess around with timing bets with Don's signals and the turnips but most of my gains have been from the very predictable foreign follow through. Since I can't go short in my 401K, this has been a great option. So far no warnings about excessive switching.....

The remarkable thing is that I have mentioned it to a couple of people at work that have been hurt by the market and not one of them has pursued it. Buy and hold is a tough habit to break!

Good luck to you, and thanks to all the regulars that make this board such a great resource.
