#17310 RE: Darwind #17309

I didn't see more than three people assembled across the street at any given time. Perhaps there were more where I couldn't see them. What appeared to take place to me was someone came out and placed a bunch of signs across the street from the Gold Hill hotel 15 minutes before people arrived.

Many of the signs were related to the stock and how shareholders were getting "mined". I found it quite interesting that the locals would start attacking the share price, I guess if they actually had some valid arguments perhaps we would have seen some more signs that related to those instead of ones about the stock.
This group seems to have a really bad habit of distorting the truth or twisting subjects to fit their point of view.
On the mine tour we took a drive down to where the starter pit will be located and were parked on the side of the road for several minutes and I can't even count the number of times cars drove by and honked/ waved in obvious support of the company.

What was also made clear to me is most locals will not take the time to talk with the company nor listen to what they have to say about the project. Most are highly uneducated about what's really going on. John Winfield and Corrado both took the time to go over there and start a dialogue with these people and they were flat out denied, they didn't want to discuss anything. In the mean time I heard local opposition proclaiming the pit would stretch all the way from Virginia City to Highway 50, It would be 1200 feet deep because that's how deep they've drilled, they were going to flatten the Gold Hill hotel. All sorts of wilds claims. It's like they don;t want to learn about the project and claim ignorance as a defense.
I also found it strange that many locals who were in opposition to the project proclaimed they didn't want a pit in their backyard. The problem with this argument is there's already a pit where thy want to build another one, go figure.

Considering Storey County Commissioner Dean Haymore stopped in to speak to the shareholders and show his support for the company and what they're trying to accomplish, I think we are going to be ok. Storey County currently has the highest rate of unemployment in the state. The Comstock Mining looks to create 30 jobs by the end of the year and create taxable revenue, both things the county desperately needs. All of this is my opinion but it doesn't look like the opposition is well informed or organized and they lack valid arguments.

Here is what I wrote about it- and I spend a good deal of time on the Comstock (I'm up there for 2-3 days every month or so), so I feel I have a pretty good read on the situation.

Regardless of the what the locals think, LODE has all the permits that they need for production (minus two which are being finalized, but are not major).

The petitions you reference are from Silver City, which is in a different county, and really doesn't hold any sway with local government.

MY understanding is that there are about 20 people that are hard core against mining in Silver City, and another 20 who are pro-mining (including employees and contractors who are working for the company). The rest are either on the fence, or don't care, or are concerned, but not "anti". But their big beef is with LODE building a pit right next to Silver City, which would be their second mine, and is years down the road.
