Help, I don't anything about XRI or Drummond read, but I did have a conversation with someone knowledgeable in this space just last week.
The TCG are spending a lot of time on identity management. The individual said it is moving quickly, and if you recall the folks at DIDW have also stated that 2005 will be a big year for ID management. They moved up their show from Oct. to May this year. I don't know if that has anything to do with possible developments coming out of WINHEC that will help move things along or perhaps there is no connection what so ever.
In any event, the TCG seems to be working with the Liberty Alliance and OAsis and getting a joint standard for TPMs getting the TPM recognized as a hardware authentication device.
Some other random musings..About a year ago I'd spoke with the same individual. At the time I was (as I am now) interested how ISV will take advantage of TPM's. For example, how might a MSFT take advantage of a large install base of TPM's in advance of full blown NGSCB? (whatever that may be). There are many things MSFT and others could do. For example, companies like Symantic, Trend Micro and Network Assoc. are all members of the TCG. It turns out that TPM's can be used to make sure that the antivirus software engine has not been tampared with and things like Media Center have not been tampared with to make illegal copies of content.
MSFT has bought antivirus and antispyware companies. Microsoft bought anti-virus vendor GeCAD in the summer of 2003, and anti-spyware maker Giant Company Software last month. I think we slap those things together with upcoming deployments of TPM 1.2, I get an image of marketing message the PC"s will become much more secure.
