NukeJohn - Your Nokia comments seem logical to me but when I consider all of the recent infringement actions against Apple, I have to think about how many times could that same IDCC portfolio be used to to minimalize or eliminate many of those threats. It just seems to me that Apple could possibly find more value in IDCC patents sooner than Nokia could (MO). But in the long run, the patents may be as valuable to Nokia as to Apple.

Your question is something the market hasn't factored in to IDCC's share price. At some point a big fish (such as Apple) will make a play on IDCC. For strategic reasons, Nokia cannot afford to let a company like Apple acquire IDCC....lest they be completely locked out of the handset business in a few years. I have been thinking all along that Nokia will make a play on IDCC....because IMHO, IDCC is worth at least $100/share to Nokia. Stop and think about how much past damages Nokia owes IDCC, especially if they have to pay .75 to 1.00 per 3G phone that they have ever sold. Ironically, IDCC would probably have accepted a deal last fall for .50 per phone....but now that IDCC is in the driver's seat....Nokia should have to pay for dragging IDCC though the courts this long.

Nukejohn,

I read all your posts on RMBS in the past, and all of them on this message board as well.

In one of the countless Rambus cases, the judge publicly stated that it was just for a company to charge higher rates to a company that forces the IP owning company to drag them through court before they will pay. Hopefully, all judges have these same thoughts on the subject.
