Porscha- Excellent post. The only thing I would add is a reminder. New Visual may actually bring a product to market that doesn't surpass what's already out there at all if we look at it in terms of speed and distance. The first application will be to simply do what is being done as far as speed/distance is concerned. However, New Visual will be doing it over copper instead of fiber. I don't have the time right now to get the quotes from the SHM, but if I remember correctly NV is attempting to give the telcos T-1 type lines at a cost that is significantly lower than the traditional way they have been accomplishing it. In short, speed and distance, in my opinion, will not be much different than what's out there now. It's the way they get those numbers that will propel our pps upward simply because we're doing something no one has done before.

Porscha, yet another possibility - dual track release of the tech, for business and consumer, differing s/d according to their respective needs.
I know that mgmt has indicated that their initial efforts will be directed towards business, yet if the tech achieves what is needed by consumers and they can supply it without any further r/d (save the necessity for some field tests and the chip to be made), what might hold them back from such a decision? The money is there for the taking, s/p will escalate accordingly, and everyone's whistling on the way to the bank.
