PowerPole. . . it looks like Ebert has a good product and probably will be a bigger player in that specific market than CPTC will be. However in California CPTC will have the advantage of lower shipping costs unless Ebert has a factory closer than Virginia. With a mandate by law in California to replace all the old creosote poles by 2008 they will be the biggest market for poles in the next few years. I think this particular pie is big enough to let several companies have a significant slice.
IMO in both the composite wire and poles one of the worst things that could happen to CPTC is for a competitor using the composite name in their product to have a catastrophic failure and the negative publicity from that would be associated with CPTC. That is one reason that even though 3M is a competitor I don't want to see any horrible things happen to any customer that uses their product. A drastic failure of any composite product in the industry would be a bad thing for all involved. Dennis
referenced is a link to, imo, some very good information.
this should help both you and noodleberry, et al, with dd on a few of the companies involved (there are others) in composite poles.
pages 11 AND 12 -the reference pages- have a wealth of reference links. lots of good information. remember though, believe some companies have merged and/or been bought by others since the time of this report. i still haven't gotten through all the information....
