This is correct, assuming you only bet ONCE, you have a chance of 18/38 (47.4%) that you win $1000. You are not concerned with averages though because the whole point is that you bet only ONCE. If you would keep on betting, you would end up with $0.


- Bet it in $1 parts: you go away with on average $947, but practically never with $0 or $2000.


This depends on how often you bet. If you keep on betting, you will always (eventually) end up with $0 and never with $2000. Try it :-)
