Rien, you didn't think your way through the problem completely. Betting big in relation to your total amount to bet doesn't give you a better chance to win, but it does give you a better chance to win big. It also gives you a better chance to walk away with nothing, so that is where the overall chance remains the same.

You want to bet $1000:
- Bet it all at once: you go away with $2000 (18 out of 38 times) or $0 (20 out of 38 times) >> average $947.
- Bet it in $1 parts: you go away with on average $947, but practically never with $0 or $2000.
