Third option and probably best for you.

System improvements - Linux Mint 9

Windows Installer: After a brief disappearance in the previous release, "mint4win", the Windows installer based on Wubi is back in Linux Mint.

This installer allows you to install Linux Mint as a program on your Windows C:\ drive, without touching your partitions.

Allows Linux Mint to be removed using add/remove programs in Windows.

Running from the live cd is slow so doesn't give a true feel for how Linux Mint performs.

Linux Mint is a great disto and an excellent Windows replacement if you don't need to run Windows programs.

Running Linux

Recently downloaded and burned to disk the latest Linux Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx. Have run the program on both my desktop and laptop from the disk and also from a jump (flash, thumb) drive without installing the program to the hard disk. Functionality is slightly slower than if installed on a hard drive but to test it is not a bad way to go.

It is a good idea for everyone to have a Linux version handy on disk or jump drive, with the computer set to allow boot from a CD/DVD or USB, and be somewhat familiar with the program should a hard drive malfunction or become infected with a virus. Included with Linux are a lot of useful programs and a connection to the internet via the included Firefox browser.

The only problem, which was minor, was the need to set and reset the computer system clock.

Here are some articles that may be of interest and give you more test options:

Create a Persistent Bootable Ubuntu USB Flash Drive

If you would like to test the latest Linux Ubuntu here is another way that will install the program on a hard drive but does not require a separate partition. The entire program can be easily removed. I have used this program in the past with no problems.

Hope this helps.
