hrbart - I'm not sure how many times over the past year (since I switched) I've said....why the heck didn't my PC ever do this?

Granted, I was a bit nervous after almost 30 years in the PC side...that lasted for about 2 hours after I unboxed my 1st MacBook. It seamlessly found my wireless network, my printers (no need to get drivers)....even my other PC based systems. I originally thought I was going to make a partition on the system and run Windows (my Intel based MAC can run Windows on same machine) for some of my more critical apps that I was used to, but in the end I didn't. I loaded MS Office for Mac, got support for my mail programs and away I went. I had a hard drive that I had backed up all my data on. Pics were found on the hard drive and imported directly into iPhoto. My docs, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, etc - all came happily over. The only issue I had was with my ACT! contact manager, I had to work around and do some exports and imports. Safari is a wonderful Internet browser, many cool features....you can also run Firefox and more. Oh yeah....we had 3 different types of digital cameras in the house...you guessed it, they all were found, no drivers to load. It's been a wonderful experience.

OT- Hrbart, for safety and security while surfing on the Internet, you can't beat a Mac or a computer loaded with Ubuntu Linux. I don't like to use Windows based computers to access the Internet due to the widespread existence of keylogger spyware that is often not detected by anti-virus and anti-spyware software. If the keystrokes for the UserIDs and Passwords associated with your online banking and brokerage accounts are discovered by Internet hackers and thieves, they can cause a lot of damage.

If you don't want to spend money on an expensive Mac, you can still salvage your old Windows PC by loading Ubuntu Linux on it. Ubuntu is free, open source software. However, I must say that Ubuntu is not for the faint of heart and does require a bit of technical knowledge -- especially if you want to customize.

Although the Mac and Ubuntu operating systems are both based upon Unix, the Mac operating system is definitely more user friendly. For a beginner who is learning to use a Mac, the only real difficulty is learning how to load new programs and applications. There are many methods. Sometimes, double-clicking on an installer icon is all that is required. At other times, dragging-and-dropping an installer icon into the applications folder is required. On other occasions, you may have to do both -- that is, double-click on an installer icon to unzip or extract files and then do a drag-and-drop. At any rate, after a program or application has been loaded, you can safely delete or eject all the temporary icons that were created on the desktop screen.
