Yes, normally it takes 2-3 years. It depends when the review process begins, how big the backlog is and how broad the coverage is, in the device's intended use. Once the review process is underway it takes inside a year. So it would be a patent-pending device in the U.S., presumably, which you can still obtain FDA approval for. I've seen examples of patent-pending devices with FDA.
