No where did it say the honorary doctorate was from MIT. In fact, it would appear to be from a Canadian university since it was the Toronto legislature that paid for him to go to a private university and continue his research leading to the honorary doctorate.
what??? John saying on FB that he has no official degree is NOT sufficient?
He, in his own words, on Facebook clearly states HIS degree is HONORARY... usually HONORARY degrees are used ONLY in academic situations considered appropriate (like meetings, symposiums, awards dinners, graduations, etc.)...
and also around all his MIT colleagues who are aware that "back when" no one could solve the problem UNTIL JOHN Bordynuik DID!
Seems that they would continue to have an appreciation of his intellect and respect his use of his HONORARY degree title, even when others less intelligent DO NOT!
If this degree matter is a stumbling block for anyone and is their best criticism of JB...THEN JBII is probably NOT a suitable investment for that person!
