WOW, joshkosces, you have an impressive history. I really respect that a lot. I get a little defensive of the Comfort. I think this disaster shows the ship should not be decomissioned as the talk of doing so has been. This shows she is still of great value.

I know you Marines are the best that we have, and obviously this disaster has affected you in a very personal way. I'm upset by it as well and have contributed. I wondered why things were not happening faster in the beginnning when it was most crutial, but the media was reporting the reasons were the problems with the infrastructure. So I had to accept that.

I hope the opportunity is provided for you to return to Haiti to help in the relief.

Great post. The overall problem, that not many want to accept or realize, is that the functional attributes of government in the United States is slowly, but surely collapsing. I am of the ilk that believes in the United States and America - just not in the people that currently represent us in government offices; Democrats and Republicans.

The recent Supreme Court ruling will make things even worse for this country. I don't think we need a 'revolution', but we need to take a good hard look at the people we have in power, and the systems and policies that make it so in 2010 we are not as responsive to crisis as we were in 1985. Washington Mutual would have never been seized back then either.

We need an overhaul that sticks to the core of the Consitution - but we need to fire every Congress person, The President, and the all SC Justices and start over with real people that have no affiliation to any party or corporate interest. We need more efficiency and less beaurocracy. The Wamu case is a perfect example, 16 months in the court system already? We put men on the moon in 1969. This should have been wrapped up in 6 months.

Josh I don't know anything much about which you speak regarding Comfort and Haiti, but thank you for serving our country.

Most of what you said is just your opinion and you don not talk for the Marine Corps.

"I apologize if I offended you ILVMNY, but I am standing my ground on the fact that we didn't do our best. We could have had ships there, maybe not the Comfort, but at least two aircraft carriers with the 2nd Marine Division pitching tents on the flight deck. The rule of threes says the President has the ability and the right to deploy Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Forces without congressional approval for 90 days. Haiti is closer to the lower 48 than Alaska or Hawaii. If a disaster happened in Anchorage or Honolulu, you bet that a fleet of US ships would be there in 24 hours, if not 72 when the most crucial and critical time is at hand".

There fleets of ships in HI and Alaska all the time - There may not be a fleet close to Haiti or in the Carribean at that time of the earthquake. Haiti ports were damaged and also, are too small to for aircraft carriers. 2nd MarDiv in is Iraq an Afganastan.
