Luckern could easily be in his late 80's.

He worked as a Patent examiner from 1956 to 1960, but before that he got a degree in Chemistry from Georgetown and a Masters in Organic Chemistry from Cornell and he worked at Eastman Kodak as a Chemist. I also saw an article where he taught some Chemistry classes at USC. I don't know this for fact, but he could easily have been in his early to mid 30's when he started working as a Patent Examiner in 1956.

Someone with some time on their hands can probably find out when he graduated from Georgetown or Cornell....and that would give a much better idea of his age. It's obvious he decided to get his law degree from Georgetown later in life.
