Re: Prescott and Nocona are the same die. Nocona has already launched, and has been selling in workstation platforms for some time now, so EM64T obviously works, and it can obviously be enabled on the desktop whenever Intel wants it to be.

Not exactly. All the Prescotts on the store shelves are and will forever be 32 bit, and will never have NX.

If you want 64 bit and NX now, Prescott is not the answer, only Athlon64 is.

If it is the same die, has EM64T capability been tested on it? And even if its the same die its not the same package, so the wiring of the pads to the package is different, and may affect the 64-bit capability. I agree with Joe's assessment:

No Prescott chip you buy now will ever be capable of running EM64T or (more important for now), having Enhanced Virus Protection.
