That doesn't explain at all why AMD is up strongly on the news.

It's one thing for AMD to die as a result of the recession or it's own failures, quite another to be put under as a result of an IP dispute. Neither the EU nor the Obama administration is going to allow AMD to be put out of business and x86 turned into a monopoly like this, period. This will only serve to make Intel look like the bad guy in every AT forum around the world.

I agree it is a shallow profit taking by an institution. And the object of the selling is not only Intel.

Many large tech stocks are down even more %-age than INTC. ORCL, HPQ, Dell WDC, XLNX, ALTR.

AMD however, is up. Maybe someone takes seriously that AMD cancelling Intel's license is meaningful.
