re:the market seems to think that this is a lot more likely to blow up in Intel's face then put AMD out of business.

More likely, the market is finding this news to be a perfect excuse to take profits on Intel. If the market perceived this was very bad for Intel or something totally unexpected, the volume & % down would be a lot higher than it is today.
