Ritz -

On the contrary. Intel is willing to find a resolution to this breach by AMD. Intel is showing the world how willing they are to license their IP when duly compensated. I think you are reading much too much into any short term stock movement. There is no connection.

"That doesn't explain at all why AMD is up strongly on the news."

Maybe they announced a merger with Chas. Pfizer.

Ritz, > Neither the EU nor the Obama administration is going to allow AMD to be put out of business and x86 turned into a monopoly like this, period.

That only explains why AMD hasn't fallen below $2.00 for any significant amount of time over the past several months.

There was nothing announced today that affirms the EU's or Obama's likelihood of bailing out AMD. I think it could happen, but that has little to do with the news about the IP dispute.

Nor do I think the market is siding with AMD with regards to the dispute. The volume sure isn't that high; in fact, it looks more average than anything.

I couldn't say for the EU, but I haven't heard the Obama administration even utter the syllables A-M-D in a single public statement.

I think there are far bigger fish to fry than to pretend the Obama administration has enough free time to play the "Big, Bad Socialist" for every single company on the verge of going out of business.

The banks as the economic backbone of the country is one thing. The automobile industry being the life blood of the mid-west is another. But I'm guessing the few thousand AMD employees and corporation with billions in debt and inconsequential product line are much more along the lines of a statistic, as opposed to something this country would want to spend even a second of time trying to save.
