I'm not sure you really understand what Wave is selling -- hP is not selling Wave's IP. Each party in the supply chain has a role and hopes to earn money because of it. Up till now, there has been a lot of focus on wave's server products becuase they appear to be integral to making a trusted environment work in a networked enterprise. Without that resource, enterprises might be reluctant to buy and utilize the TPMs.

However as the NTRU announcement and kevin's report suggests, there may be another , even more value added role. Its clear that the market for trusted computed will be large if it includes trusted computing applications - health care, banking, sarbannes Oxley, web services etc. Yhere are thousands of companies who write these types of applications or would wish to. However at this point they could face a big hurdle to make it work in a trusted environment. They might have to write it three times or more to work on the various TPM chips; they may need to figure out how to utilize the PKI and other trusted interactions with the TPM. Soon they may need to deal with LaGrande and so on -- things that go beyond their subject matter expertise and beyond what it took to sell on a palin Windows platform.

The comapnies themselves want to load these applications (actually the resellers and system integrators as well) and have them work in the trusted environment.

I think Wave is trying to sign up all these guys to provide them content. They have the tools to make the applications work with TPMs and LaGrande and the tools to see they work in a trusted networked environment. So Wave can now bring much more to the table and wave is a lot more accessible to these developers than trying to work directly with the gorillas.

In the end, we may question how much Wave can get per seat for their services. However I do know that they will get more, the mnore value they bring to the party. And that is how they can get a bigger market share of the trusted computing space.
