thank you rachelelise. My point wis simply: the HP/IBMs' (i.e., OEMs of any flavor) WILL be selling Waves IP to the extent that they make end-use widgets that incorporate TPMs -- the behemoth marketing departments/armies at the likes of HP or IBM or Fujitsu or NEC or Comcast or NewsCorp/DirecTV will rabidly strive for marketshare ... Wave's not poised to become an Intel -- a design/fab/marketing powerhouse -- Wave's more analogous to Rambus (ticke: RMBS)

Wave Introduces Trusted Computing Developers Tool,
The EMBASSY® Cryptographic Service Provider

EMBASSY® CSP Product to Be Demonstrated At RSA Conference 2002,
Feb. 18-21, McEnery Convention Center, San Jose, CA

San Jose (Feb. 12, 2002) -- In an important step to make personal computers more trustworthy, Wave Systems Corp. (Nasdaq: WAVX -- www.wave.com) today announced the availability of the EMBASSY® CSP, or Cryptographic Service Provider, a product that will allow Microsoft Windows developers to quickly and cost effectively integrate next-generation security features into their offers.

Wave Systems is the developer of the EMBASSY Trust System, for secure e-commerce and trusted digital exchange, and the EMBASSY® 2100 secure e-commerce chip. EMBASSY chips may be embedded in such products as smart card readers, computer keyboards, other computer components and cable system set top boxes. When the EMBASSY system secures a device such as a personal computer, personal information such as credit card numbers, PIN numbers and other end user secrets are protected from theft.

The EMBASSY CSP, which is a secure application on an EMBASSY 2100 chip, links Windows to EMBASSY cryptographic libraries, key storage and key generation capabilities. Initially, the EMBASSY CSP will work with the Microsoft Crypto Application Library (MSCAPI or CryptoAPI). The EMBASSY CSP extends the capability of functions like "generate keys", "encrypt data" and "sign" to a common set of industry standard calls. By choosing the Microsoft applications programming interface, Wave's hardware works out of the box for common applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Exchange.

In addition to the applications from Microsoft, thousands of independent developers have created products that use the standard Microsoft Crypto Application Library. Now these programs can be directed to use the hardened EMBASSY platform instead of a potentially insecure software-only implementation. When working with EMBASSY CSP, developers can add EMBASSY security functions to their programs with easy to understand API commands, when specifying the EMBASSY CSP. Developers can register their application with Wave to receive the privilege of using the EMBASSY Enabled logo on their packaging -- providing assurance to their users that they are committed to security.

"The CSP product is the foundation of authentication-based applications, such as secure identity, communications and e-commerce, and this is an important milestone in making EMBASSY a versatile player with one of the most widely used computer platforms," said Steven Sprague, president and CEO, Wave Systems.

The EMBASSY CSP kit includes an EMBASSY USB smart card reader, the EMBASSY end user installer integrated with CSP installation program, a CSP developer's and smart card manual and an end user manual. The EMBASSY CSP will be demonstrated at the Wave Systems booth, No. 1502, at the RSA Conference 2002, Feb. 18-21, McEnery Convention Center, San Jose, CA. The product will be priced at $95 and is expected to be available for shipping on March 18 to application developers. Order information will be available on www.wave.com.

Also, Wave will showcase a secure application suite in a trustworthy computing "Trusted PC" demonstration, including EMBASSY CSP functionality, at the RSA show. "Our extensive market research, both in the U.S. and in Europe, conclusively shows that consumers are eager to get trusted PC capabilities and are willing to pay a premium to get them," Sprague said.

Rachelelise: So refreshing to read a post from somebody who simply gets it! How true this is : "They have the tools to make the applications work with TPMs and LaGrande and the tools to see they work in a trusted networked environment. So Wave can now bring much more to the table and wave is a lot more accessible to these developers than trying to work directly with the gorillas." A public thank you! Jeff
