mas -

While they are doing this AMD will be slipping into 90nm and 3Ghz speeds.

'Slipping' is a poor choice of words. :)

Mas, Re: They will need the new 775 socket just to deliver enough power to exceed 3.6 Ghz and will they ever reach 5Ghz on air-cooling ? While they are doing this AMD will be slipping into 90nm and 3Ghz speeds.

So you expect AMD to reach 3GHz while Intel is transitioning to socket-775. I guess you fit in pretty well here.

mas, AMD 90 nm process is not too matherial to discuss yet. We don't know when they will get 3 Ghz there.

Fortunately for AMD, they will deliver Athlon FX-53 on socket 939 in April. This beast will have 2.4 Ghz, 1 Mb cache and dual-channel unbuffered. It should score two full speed grades above current Athlon FX-51, or three speed grades above current A64 3400.

I think it will benchmark better than Northwood 4 Ghz and more or less in line with Prescott 4 Ghz. Can anyone remind me when Prescott 4 Ghz is expected?
