Intel is too busy fighting fires with Prescott to be an effective block on AMD at the moment. Northwood is going to finish on 3.4 Ghz, Prescott's max at the launch will only be 3.4 Ghz despite the fact that it is designed to do 5Ghz. They will need the new 775 socket just to deliver enough power to exceed 3.6 Ghz and will they ever reach 5Ghz on air-cooling ?
While they are doing this AMD will be slipping into 90nm and 3Ghz speeds. Your money's safe in AMD until Intel's 65nm process.
