I know a little about this in wash. state and the water issue is very polluted with political sewage,however, I am sure that doesn't make us cherry..

I certainly agree with you. Many of the fastest growing areas in the US (Las Vegas, Reno, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Diego) have unreliable or inadequate long term water supplies, but just keep on expanding. In addition, deep aquafiers in the Midwest are being tapped to grow wheat, corn, and potatoes, with with little regard to the long-term impact.

One of these days it has to come home to roost. I've thought about this a lot, usually after trips to these areas, but have never acted upon it. Maybe now is the time. Any well-reasoned ideas out there?
