Do a system restore back to before you tried to download version 8

After that try to remove 7 yourself in control panel, add/remove programs, and then try downloading and installing 8 again.

try doing a restore, then see if the file you originally tried to read will just open after you tell Adobe OK on the note that came up. I get those notes ALL the time, no matter what version I'm using and the files open fine.

If you can read the file without a newer version I wouldn't bother installing it again.

The other way you can try is uninstall the new version, then uninstall the older version, then re-install the new version.

go to control panel>add/remove programs and remove adobe from there - or have you tried that already?

I hope that you've verified that you're logged in as administrator on your machine. If you are, here are detailed instructions to remove adobe:

Make sure you

Have shutoff Adobe in Task Manager prior to attempting to uninstall.
