Scott, I don't know beans about how these things work, but I just read an article about "lost" data, so I can give a bit of advice until the cavalry shows up.

[1] Your data is NOT permanently destroyed by a single reformatting, but getting it back might be time and money consuming, i.e., you might need professional help.

[2] DON'T LET ANYTHING WRITE TO THAT DRIVE UNTIL YOU GET REAL HELP! The best thing to do would be to disconnect it from the mother board. This is so that the system can write over it again and again, even just in spots, which would make it harder to recover your stuff.
