I agree on all points. I'm all for technology but that thing is a bit over the top for me. Our electric company had a deal going on a couple years ago where I was able to purchase a NEST thermostat for one dollar. I bought it just because a normal decent thermostat can set you back at least 50 too 100 bucks or more and you never know when you're going to need a new one.

I decided to install it and everything to operate it goes through the cell phone so it's all a pain in the ass. When I set my stat it's 66 for the winter and 77 for the summer, period, end of story. This thing wants to constantly fart with my temperatures in the house when I'm not there or I'm sleeping or whatever. The problem comes in when it decides to adjust temperatures by 5 degrees telling you it's saving energy. Yeah sure, of course it's saving energy when I'm not at home but when I come back the furnace or A/C has to run twice as long and hard for it to catch back up to a normal temperature cycle. All that energy you're supposedly saving goes right back in and stresses the equipment while it's trying to catch back up.

Plus my pets don't need to be suffering in excessive cold or heat when I'm not home so I disabled all those features. Now I basically use my phone as I would to physically walk up and manually set the temperature on the thermostat. If I bought one of these thermostats for full price, I would be livid. Not to mention the flood of crap I constantly get from google wanting to automate my entire house, it's a joke.

I'll give them one thing though, the thermostat does seem to be a bit more accurate than my old one was. They can keep all their bells and whistles.

Sheesh, you can use your phone to turn just about anything on and off nowadays. Or you can have Alexa do it. Or Siri, probably.

But what do you think of the "invisible" cooktop itself?
