Martha Stewart paid three times the amount of losses avoided and was prosecuted! What fraction of the proceeds did the Citadel fine represent? The SEC is a clown car.
I think the SEC is handcuffed in what they can fine these companies for first time violations. I think further violations will be higher, but it is really up to the market place to settle the score, unfortunately. I wish they released a list of companies that were most often victims of these "mislabelling" issues. That would make it easier for the market participants to self regulate via lawsuits.
