Doc I did a 30 minute search on the magistrate. Yes the firm Stein was with did have some political clients. Stein represented white collars and was involved in Madoff. I saw nothing alarming instead I saw someone that thoroughly understands the industry.
But, you never know about the politics.

Just a thought -Why doesn't someone on the board contact NWBO (DI) and bring the question to them, as to why the judge assigned was changed.
