I think you are mischaracterizing statements that some have made. Obviously there are always various risks for every asset type and company.

What I have seen is “derisked” which you can interpret absolutely, but I have seen no one say absolutely and the meaning can also mean that there has been a “reduction in risk”, which means that some categories of risk are not as high as they were. I think that is a perfectly reasonable judgment, whether everyone agrees or not.

Ike, of course there’s always a nonzero risk especially when the playing field and/or referees may not be level and unbiased.

That said, I know I can still lose my whole investment, however I find the risk-reward ever the more compelling. I may find my brokerage account down 100k-200k one day not far away, or with an extra $1-$2 million, and the phase 3 results and manufacturing and the regulators, and patients outcomes and demand for the treatment, all “promising” in the words of our fearless leader!

Getting out of bed, or even staying in bed, all involves nonzero risk of a loss of some type and degree and you can live your life constantly in fear, however it’s more fun to think about the often much more likely probability of experiencing positive developments and outcomes!

In closing, I leave you to ponder:

If a tree falls in a distant forest and no one is around to hear it, will they harvest the wood and produce the newspaper stock that the great DCVax Works headlines will be printed on? :-)
