OBP, and OPS are the two categories I love the best. To me you could be hitting 280 which sounds great, but if you never walk and your obp is 280, than it is not that good. But even looking not at war, His OBP is 60 Point higher, and His OPS, is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay higher.
Even RBI's a stat I love if the guy is hitting leadoff, that is a horrible stat to look at. For example Nimmo is having a great season for the mets, but his RBI's aren't indicating anything of the sort, than again he is paid to get on base, where his almost 400 obp is screaming at the top of the lungs that he is doing the job.
I get the age/money thing, but those are irrelvant in term of evaluating how a person is doing this year.
But OBP and OPS regardless whether your on a good team/bad team or where you are in the lineup says all I need to know about a player's bat in my opinion for the most part. In fairness donaldson is superior in both to gio and it isn't even close in my opinion. Now whether you want donaldson on the team with his contract/age/personality/clubhouse stuff, that is a completely different story but Donaldson has posted vastly superior numbers to gio in my opinion in 2022 so far.
