I don't think I'll ever understand WAR. It's a stat more and more people and teams have adopted when comparing players.

The formula
For position players: (The number of runs above average a player is worth in his batting, baserunning and fielding + adjustment for position + adjustment for league + the number of runs provided by a replacement-level player) / runs per win

Who the heck is the replacement player?

I look at BA, HRs, OBP and age. And today with the Yankees salary is a consideration as well. Gio was pocket change compared to Donaldson. Keeping Gio would have freed up money to sweeten the deal with Judge.

Today's double header will be some indication of how Boone deals with yesterday. IMO Donaldson needs to sit for both games.
