In my previous job ( not semi conductor, but consumer durables) a prototype was indeed the same as in your aircraft experience. A prototype was fabricated to final design data. Product/device and process were developed in paralel and in house. It seems to me that in the case of Lightwave the final design ( the prototype) is piloted and fully tested in house and afterwards needs to be handed over to a third party for further process evaluation in mass fabrication. Not sure this helps. What we do agree on is that the prototype is the real thing. Given that Lightwave is involved in multiple projects each of which may be in a different development stage ( e.g. Polariton) different prototypes may be needed, dependent on customer requirements. In other words close relationships between Lightwave and the customer need to start in early in the “ product development” phase. Something LWLG has always communicated to be the case. The PDK ‘s are in fact the fabrication process instructions for use in mass fabrication foundry facilities.
Maybe Koog can tell us more on the chip development process itself?
