Let me add that foundries are interested in adding value and adding scale/volume preferably using existing manufacturing capacity and manufacturing processes. Foundries ( any factory) are absolutely not interested in investing in complexity or adding fixed overhead to deal with product and process complexity. One of the drawbacks for IBM and other chip design companies is that their chipdesigns need to be manufactured at third party foundries as well ( IBM sold its foundry business to Global Foundries’) where complex designs are met with increasing resistance. The power of Foundries has increased and the power of design freedom meets barriers.
Lightwave has the great benefit of using existing capacity, manufacturing processes and adding new scaleable photonics which meet today’s and future customer requirements without adding complexity…
