Doc- I'm also in NY, but I run the IT department got a major healthcare clinic in Illinois. Our urgent care business was awful in January/February. All flu (stomach/a/b) cases YoY were down 90%.

I do think it is multifold though. Masks for sure reduce the transmission, however I also think the behavior modification causeed by COVID are adding to it as well. Ie:
-people washing hands more often.
-people are leaving their house less often
-grouping up less densely as they would previously as well which i believe would have some compounding effect on the reduction of transmission.

The politicization of this issue has caused people to ignore facts to serve purpose on both sides, and I prefer to try to depoliticize where possible. One side will suggest that the decline (damn near elimination of Flu) is a conspiracy by hospitals to fleece the taxpayer by calling everything COVID. This veiw is so cynical and insulting to medical professionals who literally risk their lives to care for ill patients with communicable diseases.

It is also completely ignorant of the complex flu monitoring system that the US has set up world wide to identify and predict flu strain circulation. The network of Sentinel physicians monitor every respiratory and flu-like illness and test each and every case they and their partners see. The network in the US is 100,000 strong... and they saw very few cases this past season. This network is not subject to political or institutional influence, and if you do not believe this, you should not be investing in healthcare or visiting the US healthcare system when ill because you have no faith in the integrity of physicians.

I would argue that there is so much science does not know.

Perhaps the people who got Covid are immune immune to the virus?

Perhaps there's only room for one virus at a time?

Perhaps the mask works in a way that keeps people from touching their nose along with better hygiene like washing hands?

Perhaps a good number of flu infected actually have both but are listed as Covid?

Perhaps the flu vaccine is on target this year?

Perhaps Covid provided an immunity to the flu?
