The politicization of this issue has caused people to ignore facts to serve purpose on both sides, and I prefer to try to depoliticize where possible. One side will suggest that the decline (damn near elimination of Flu) is a conspiracy by hospitals to fleece the taxpayer by calling everything COVID. This veiw is so cynical and insulting to medical professionals who literally risk their lives to care for ill patients with communicable diseases.

It is also completely ignorant of the complex flu monitoring system that the US has set up world wide to identify and predict flu strain circulation. The network of Sentinel physicians monitor every respiratory and flu-like illness and test each and every case they and their partners see. The network in the US is 100,000 strong... and they saw very few cases this past season. This network is not subject to political or institutional influence, and if you do not believe this, you should not be investing in healthcare or visiting the US healthcare system when ill because you have no faith in the integrity of physicians.
