1. Get your doctor to write you a prescription - have them write DAW1 (this means no generic substitution).

I told my GP that after much of my adult life knocking back handfuls of ibuprofen, I wanted an alternative arthritis pain relief that was more benign. Kaiser's off label was gabapentin. I told him that I had the same conceptual issues with the protracted use of an anti seizure medication as I did with ibuprofen. I said I had tried OV EPA 500 and gotten very good results and that although Kaiser would not cover V, I would. He did a little research, cut me a script, and so did his replacement a few years later. Post my MI, Kaiser is covering it through Medicare Part D.
